Martin Maudsley is a professional storyteller based in the South West of England. He does more than just tell stories — he writes poetry, makes music, and even crafts scripts, performing everywhere from theatres and schools to village pubs and open countryside. He founded the Bristol Storytelling Festival and served as its Artistic Director for seven years, and has appeared on BBC Radio, sharing local legends and seasonal traditions. In 2023, he published Telling the Seasons, a book that weaves together stories and folklore for every month of the year. In short, Martin is someone who brings storytelling to life and takes it far beyond the page.
Martin Maudsley recently visited Green Oasis School to deliver an unforgettable “Imagineering” workshop for our Year 8 students—an experience that blended creativity, storytelling, and high-energy participation.
PROFILE
From the very beginning, he had students on their creative minds and fully involved. Rather than simply presenting, he invited them into the process—encouraging movement, spontaneous ideas, quick responses, and even a few deliberately silly actions that had the entire room laughing. His approach broke down barriers quickly, creating an atmosphere where every student felt comfortable contributing.
What made the session particularly powerful was his ability to transform student input into compelling stories. Using images, objects, and ideas suggested by the students themselves, he wove narratives on the spot, building from a loose framework in his mind. This not only demonstrated the art of storytelling but also showed students the value of their own imagination and voice.
Throughout the workshop, his energy was infectious. Laughter was constant, engagement was high, and students left not just entertained, but inspired—having experienced firsthand how creativity can be collaborative, dynamic, and exciting.
The workshop was a clear reminder that storytelling is not just something we consume, but something we can actively create—especially when imagination is given the space to thrive.
